Sunday Afternoons
3:30-5:30
Our futures lie with our youth of today. We at Church of the Covenant believe that through our Youth Ministry we can help our communities grow stronger and safer through prayer and living the lives as set forth in the Holy Scriptures.

Activities Coming Up
Regular Youth Group meeting time is Sunday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30.

Well, 2007 has come and gone and we can honestly say it was a year of change and growth. Some changes have brought sorrow, some excitement, but nevertheless, God calls us to trust Him and stay focused on discerning His will for our lives and our church in the coming year.

And UMYF will start 2008 off with a bang. Our first event of the year will be our annual lock-in to be held Jan. 4th – 5th from 8pm thru 8am. With that said we would like to invite ALL covenant youth in grades 6-12 to join us. (staying all night is purely optional). It’ll be a night of games and fun and junk food and fun and music and fun and more junk food and did I say fun? And one more very important thing—caffeine for the adults!!!

Speaking of adults—we would also love to have any and all adults willing to brave one full night with the greatest youth group ever, to join us as well, the more the merrier.

So, if you haven’t been to youth in a while or have never been, this a great time to try us out. Anyone interested can contact me at youth@covenantum.org or call the church office. Permission forms will be required and available upon request.

Our next event will be our attempt to help everyone keep that all too familiar New Years resolution—you know the one. On Jan. 27th, from 10am – 1pm please join us for a “lite” lunch with our “Spuds & Salad” fundraiser. We’ll be earmarking the proceeds for a summer mission trip as well as retreats and/or conferences to be held throughout the year. The lunch will include a huge green salad and hot baked potatoes and all the fixins’. But most of all we’ll have some great fellowship and a chance to see our youth in action. Tickets will be available after every service as well as the church office. We hope to see everyone there.

The youth at Covenant has always been one of my favorite things about our church. You don’t have to be with them for long to see their great potential and be caught up in the possibilities that are yet to come.

As I step into the “acting youth director” role, I realize I have some very large shoes to fill. My only prayer is that I can take everything that Maura started and with the help of our youth council and hopefully, MANY dedicated adult leader, we can take this youth ministry to the next level.

Thank you all for this opportunity and for your continued support of our youth.

In Christ,
Gretchen Cheshire
Junior High Youth
Here is a group of fun loving, intelligent, young people that can't wait to serve the Lord. This group spends time in fellowship, Bible study, group discussion and recreation. They are building bonds with each other while learning how to apply Christ's directives to this challenging time in their lives. The Junior High group welcomes all in the 6th-8th grade to join them each Sunday.
Meet the Director - Gretchen Cheshire

If you've been here at Covenant very long, chances you know Gretchen already. As a member of both the Chancel Choir and Praise Team, she is one of our most faithful and active members.

Having felt God's calling to work with teens and youths for years, Gretchen became an adult volunteer in 2007 and the kids quickly fell in love with her. Throughout the year she helped shape and grow our youth ministiry.

Effecive January 1st, Gretchen now serves as the In Term Director of Youth Ministries.

If you feel God's calling to work with our youth, please contact Gretchen at youth@covenantum.org or catch her on Sunday morning. She can help you discern where your place may be within several of our ministries. This is exactly how Gretchen found her place in this ministry.
Senior High Youth
The Senior High students, grades 9-12, represent almost every high school in the Lafayette area. They are a diverse, challenging, highly intelligent group of young people who do not shy away from the difficult situations in their lives. When they get together, the group discussion is sure to focus on a topic that applies instantly to situations that they are experiencing in their own lives. The Senior High youth share and support each other in all that they do. But there is also a little fun thrown in at each meeting to keep it real. You are encouraged to come and join this dynamic group.
